The Whistler Blackcomb Recruiting Fair
*Pre-book your interview in October each year*
Whistler Blackcomb recruits year round, although most of the seasonal winter hiring is done during the Fair. They normally will be hiring for the following Divisions:
- Retail/Rental
·
- Ski & Snowboard School
·
- Food and Beverage
·
- Guest Services
- Operations
What to do
Pre-booking will be available normally at the start of October every year for either the Local's or Main Recruiting Fair.
Each person will have an initial Company Fit interview. If you are successful with this interview, you will need to be available for a second, job specific interview.
What to Bring
- Criminal Record Check Clearance
New applicants may be requested to complete a criminal record check as part of the recruiting process for various positions. It is highly recommended that if you are arriving from overseas and you intend to work in our Ski & Snowboard School, in particular, you should obtain your own National Criminal Record clearance from the relevant authority before leaving your home country. Having proof of this clearance will ensure that there are no delays in starting work and it is generally cheaper than having us complete the check for you. If you require a Criminal Record Check to be done after arriving in Whistler, we can complete these at a cost of $37.45 for Canadians and $90.95 for International applicants.
- You must provide two pieces of identification, including a picture ID and a credit card for the payment.
-
Note: you must present the original of your completed National Criminal Record check from your country of residence and it must be dated within six months in order to last you the season. (Total validity 12 months).
Foreign Applicants
To work for us, it is essential that you are
- Canadian citizen/permanent resident or you hold a valid Canadian Work Authorization.
- You will be asked for proof of your status upon job offer.
Work Authorization/Visas
To obtain a Work Authorization or visa, you must contact your local Canadian Consulate or the Canadian Embassy in your country. It is up to YOU to obtain your own visa - Whistler Blackcomb does NOT provide Letters of Offer.
Note: in order for Whistler Blackcomb to provide a Letter of Offer, they must prove that there is no Canadian citizen or resident that can fill the position we are offering. As this process is lengthy and often impossible, they do not provide Letters of Offer.
Travel Insurance
It is compulsory for all foreign applicants to purchase travel insurance covering them for the duration of their employment with Whistler Blackcomb, regardless of whether or not you think you may be eligible for Company Benefits.
Social Insurance Number (SIN)
It is easiest to apply for a SIN in person at one of the
Human Resources Department of Canada Office
in Vancouver. They are listed under the government section of the Vancouver phone directory and are open Monday through Friday, 9am - 4pm.
By law, you must present us with your SIN within one week of commencing employment with us.
Direct Deposit
It is a condition of employment at Whistler Blackcomb that your wages be direct deposited to a Canadian Bank account. Banks with branches located in Whistler are TD Canada Trust, Royal Bank of Canada and Scotiabank. Direct deposit forms are available at Employee Experience or Employee Services.
Language
Whistler Blackcomb is an equal opportunity employer that welcomes foreign applicants and diverse cultures. All of our employees must have a competent grasp of the English language and be able to communicate clearly with co-workers and guests. Please be prepared to go through the interview process and provide your resume in English.
Driver's Abstracts
For any jobs that require on-road driving (ie. buses, flat bed trucks, cube vans, etc.), Whistler Blackcomb will require a BC Driver's License and a BC Driver's abstract (N print version showing commercial as well as personal record). For more information, please contact us directly at 604.938.7366.
Grooming Policy
Part of projecting a positive image of our mountains is maintaining a professional, well-groomed appearance while at work.
· Hair must be neat. For females, hair must be tied back when it is a safety issue. For males, hair must be above the collar and cut to mid-ear length at the sides. Drastic hair colours or styles are not acceptable.
· Jewelry should be worn in moderation. Women may wear one earring of the same size in each ear. Men may wear one small stud or ring. Other facial jewelry or exposed body piercings must be removed while at work, such as tongue rings or studs.
· Personal hygiene is important and aftershave and perfume should be kept to a minimum
Expenses & Wages
Be prepared that while you could be offered a job, winter positions may not start until the mountains open in mid November and some positions do not commence until mid December. Life in a resort town is expensive and we recommend arriving with enough money to support yourself for a few weeks until you are settled (ie. pay for accommodation deposits, etc.)
Perks & Benefits
Along with wages, we also offer many perks and benefits. These include a dual mountain seasons pass, 50 percent food discounts at Whistler Blackcomb restaurants, 20 percent discounts at Whistler Blackcomb retail stores, free group drop-in Ski and Snowboard lessons and much more. Wage levels vary according to the job applied for and completion of a probationary period. As a guide, you can expect a wage range from $8.16 CDN to $13.79 CDN per hour for our entry-level positions.
