The maximum validity of an employment authorization issued under this program is usually 12 months. The additional requirements vary from country to country. In some countries such as Finland, UK and Ireland for example, you also need to be a full-time student to qualify for this program. A: Student General Working Holiday Program:

Applicants must: Be citizens of the United Kingdom or Ireland
Be aged between 18 and 30 Be full-time students in acceptable programs at a university or college in their country of citizenship
Provide a written job offer from a Canadian employer
You are not allowed to change employers while on the program, since the authorizations are valid for employment with the named employer only.
The number of places on this program is limited and applications are dealt with on a first come, first served basis.

B: British Universities North American Club (BUNAC) & USIT

Be citizens of the United Kingdom or Ireland
Be aged between 18 and 30
Be full-time students in acceptable programs at a university or college in their country of citizenship
A written job offer from a Canadian employer is NOT required

Do I need to prove I have sufficient funds in order to apply for a Working Holiday Visa?

Immigration officer may ask you for evidence of having sufficient funds of AU$4000 or £1500-1600 or approx, ?2,350 in available funds, in the form of your current bank statement, your credit card statement, travelers? cheques or cash. You must carry this evidence with you or you may forfeit your chance to be issued a work permit for the maximum period of 12 months. Evidence of your funds will help to satisfy the officer that you will be able to establish yourself initially in Canada while you seek employment. If your funds are distributed in different forms or accounts, you should carry all the relevant evidence of access to your savings.  go to top

Is there a visa application charge?

The charge per person is $150.00 (Canadian Dollars) This fee is per person, but the total amount will not exceed $450 in the case of a group of three or more performing artists and their staff who apply at the same time and place.   go to top

Do I need to have a medical examination?

As per Immigration and Refugee Protection Act Regulation 30(1)(c), if an individual is seeking entry to Canada for a period of greater than six months, and has resided or sojourned, at any time during the one year period immediately preceding the date of seeking entry, for six consecutive months, in a designated country/territory, then he/she is required to undergo an immigration medical examination. Depending on their intended occupation while in Canada, certain temporary foreign workers are required to undergo medical examination regardless of their intended duration of stay. Should you have any questions about whether a medical examination is required, please contact the visa/immigration office where you are making, or have made, your application.

How long can I stay in Canada on a Working Holiday visa?

Am I restricted in the type of work I do?

Your work permit will state that you are ?Not authorised to work in

• Childcare
  
• Primary or Secondary school teaching
  
• Health Services field occupations

If you wish to work in the occupations of child care, primary or secondary school teaching or health services, you must contact any Canada Immigration Centre (CIC) when you are in Canada and request medical examination forms and instructions. After completing the medical and obtaining your results, the CIC will modify your Work Permit to remove the condition on occupation. The Canadian Consulate General will not issue medical instructions to persons applying for the WHP Canada in the restricted occupations. You must do your medical examination in Canada and have your Work Permit modified in Canada.  go to top

Can the three months work condition be extended?

The Canada Work Permit is not extendable past the expiry date printed on it. To stay in Canada as a tourist once your Work Permit expires; you must contact any Canada Immigration Centre (CIC) when your Work Permit is still valid and request a change of status to a temporary resident (visitor).  go to top

Can I undertake studies on my Working Holiday visa?

If you wish to undertake a course of study in Canada that starts and finishes in a 6-month period or less, you will not require an additional Study Permit. You can attend the course without contacting a Canada Immigration Centre (CIC). If you plan to undertake a course that is longer than 6 months in duration, you will need to make an inland application for a Study Permit by contacting any Canada Immigration Centre (CIC) and asking for kit IMM 5217E.
