Work Authorisation Scheme:
Recently the Irish Government introduced the Work Authorisation Scheme, which applies only to persons who have an offer of employment in Ireland in one of the following sectors:
- Information Technology, including ICT Professionals, ICT Technicians, Programmers, etc
- Public Health & Social Care
- Professional Construction, including Construction Engineers, Building and Quantity Surveyors and Town Planners
Before the introduction of this Scheme, Irish employers would have to obtain Work Authorisations directly through the Department of Labour in Dublin, which would take up to six weeks. This new Scheme in effect fast tracks the process. Work Authorisations are usually issued from the Consulate General of Ireland in fifteen days.
The following is required when applying for a Work Authorisation:
- Completed application forms (available from the Consulate General of Ireland)
- Written offer of employment from Irish employer
- Current New Zealand passport and two passport photographs
- Application fee of NZ$195.00
- Additional documents as required
Entry Visas:
New Zealand passport holders do not require Entry Visas to visit Ireland on holiday. They may holiday in Ireland for up to three months and employment is prohibited. Evidence of onwards travel from Ireland within a three-month period is required.
There are some countries whose citizens require an Entry Visa to visit Ireland on holiday. Permanent residents of New Zealand, who are not New Zealand citizens, wishing to travel to Ireland, can obtain further information from the Consulate General of Ireland in Auckland.
